Cinco de Mayo Celebrate Cinco
de Mayo on Monday, May 8 (delayed from Friday, May 5 due to the 100-degree forecast)
at the Ramada starting
at the usual time of 4:30 with food served at 5:00.
This is a potluck, with the Hospitality
Committee furnishing dessert, margaritas, beer and
wine. Since this is a Mexican fiesta, we encourage
everyone to dress the part. For fun, there will be a
couple of pinatas filled with goodies.
Wednesday Movie This week's movie is
Cold Mountain starring Jude Law and
Nicole Kidman. In the waning days of the American Civil
War, a wounded soldier embarks on a perilous journey
back home to Cold Mountain, North Carolina to reunite
with his sweetheart. Showtime is 7:00
p.m. at
the Ramada. Thanks to Jane
and Eric Ellingson for
sponsoring this popular event.
Thanks from Owl & Panther Project From
Becky
McCreary: "A heartfelt 'thank you!' to the
Esperanza Estates residents who responded to Pat
Sharpe's invitation
to donate art and craft supplies to Tucson's Owl &
Panther Project. Hundreds of items were collected in
Green Valley and will give refugee children in Tucson a
chance to interact with other children, express
themselves artistically, and make something beautiful.
Pat's collection box on her patio and at the Ramada
yielded a huge number of useful supplies. Thank you
again!"
Book Discussion Group The EE Book Discussion Group will meet
Tuesday,
May 2 at 11:00 a.m. at
the Ramada to discuss THIS
HOUSE OF SKY: Landscapes of a Western Mind by
Ivan Doig. The author is considered the premier writer
of the American West. All are welcome! To keep everyone reading over the summer months, please
bring titles of a few books that you have enjoyed--bring
paper and pencil to write down the titles that may sound
interesting. See you there!
Palm Tree Trimming Notice From the Board This notice is from the Board to all EE homeowners
with tall palm trees on their property: "We have had fires in untrimmed palms more than once
in past years; such fires pose a serious danger of
setting fire to homes by falling on rooftops.
Trimming these palms is a critical issue due to the
fact they are lightning magnets (because of their
height), and every year in Green Valley there are
fires reported that were caused by lightning strikes
on palms. If burning fronds fell on a roof in EE,
the resulting fire could burn out the 4 or 5 houses
in the row. In addition to property damage, there
is a real possibility of jeopardy to life. Homeowners may use any tree service they please; the
EE HOA uses Monstrosity Tree Service because they do
a good job at a competitive price. They
generally give EE homeowners the same discounted
($50/tree) rate they charge the HOA if the work is
done while they are in the neighborhood trimming our
common area palms. You
can contact Monstrosity Tree Service at: (520)
230-7131 or (520) 625-TREE and arrange to have the
trimming done between June 1st and 30th; they can do
the trimming during that time even if you will not
be in residence. The HOA absolutely requires the trimming to be done
as a safety issue; if owners refuse or neglect to do
so, the HOA will be forced to have it done and will
assess the homeowner at cost plus a 50% surcharge.
Your cooperation in this matter will be appreciated;
it is in the best interest of both you and your
neighbors to arrange for the necessary trimming."
Parque Felicidad If you haven't done so recently this would be a good
time to drive by Parque Felicidad to see the shade trees
in all their glory. They look just beautiful and you can
picture how nice they are going to look in the future as
they mature over the years. This is a wonderful dwelling
spot which is going to become increasingly more
desirable. Thanks to our farsighted Gardeners, who came
up with and promoted this idea to turn what was just a
dusty vacant space into a very lovely amenity for our
neighborhood.
